Tips for covering corruption
1. Transparency International
- This international agency at www.transparency.org
is the leading web site on government corruption.
- Every year they do a survey on corruption and rank the countries.
The 2001 survey is at http://www.transparency.org/documents/cpi/2001/cpi2001.html#cpi
and you can see where your country is ranked. The Corruption Perceptions
Index 2001 ranks 91 countries. Almost two-thirds of the countries ranked
in the new index score less than 5 out of a clean score of 10
- You can consult the list of their national chapters to see if one
is operating in your country at http://www.transparency.org/contact/index.html.
- Check out their What’s New page at http://www.transparency.org/whats-new/index.html
to see the latest and archived press releases
- They also have an excellent list of links at http://www.transparency.org/site-tools/links.html
and you can see if there are resources or government bodies listed from
your country
